The Challenge - Streamlining Booklet Production with a Digital Booklet Maker

A multi-national law firm founded in 1949 approached The Finishing Point for help in streamlining their booklet production and their in-house creasing production. As of August 2016, the company ranked as the second largest international law firm in the world with 13,000 employees in 77 offices across 47 countries, the company also had an annual turnover of 2.62 Billion US Dollars.

The issue however is that the company had no option but to outsource basic creasing jobs which often resulted in a failure to meet deadlines and very short turnaround times.

Our challenge therefore was to enhance their in-house capability to reduce the need for outsourcing whilst also opening up new markets and new ideas for the business in the long term. The client in particular was looking for an automated booklet maker with a three knife trim.

The Solution

The Finishing Point assessed their requirements and recommended two booklet makers that would perfectly fit their requirement, a Duplo 150CR or the higher capacity 350CR. Due to the low to mid volume requirement and limited space for the dedicated booklet production the 150CR suited perfectly.

The Outcome

The 150CR Booklet Maker delivered automated digital booklet production with three knife trim - meeting the clients requirements and reducing the need for any outsourcing. Thanks to the machine, high quality could be completed in house and the company could retain total control over the processes involved.
The machine also enabled workflow to be streamlined as collated sets could be run directly from the press
The customer also benefited from a consistently high quality finish with all sides trimmed
